Waiting restrictions

There are two main types of on-street waiting restrictions:

  • Yellow lines where parking is not permitted
  • White parking bays where parking is permitted in specific situations

Waiting restriction markings on the ground should be accompanied by a traffic sign informing motorists of any day, time or length of stay limitations associated with the restrictions.

How can you request changes to waiting restrictions?

In Salisbury and Wilton – the Salisbury Joint Transportation Committee decides on requests for new restrictions or changes to existing restrictions.

Elsewhere in South Wiltshire – the Regulatory Committee of the County Council considers such requests in its Annual Traffic Regulation Order Review.

Enforcement and penalties

Salisbury District Council is responsible for enforcing waiting restrictions throughout the district.

It is the responsibility of the motorists to ensure they are parked in accordance with the restrictions marked on the ground and indicated on any accompanying traffic signs. Motorists who park in contravention of a restriction are liable to be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

Find more information on Penalty Charge Notices.
