Traffic calming

Traffic calming is the use of physical measures to control traffic speeds. They are generally used in residential areas where it is necessary to ensure that driver behaviour is appropriate to the environment.

Traffic calming measures typically include speed humps, speed cushions, chicanes, mini-roundabouts, priority measures and road narrowings, and are usually implemented in conjunction with 20mph zones.
