Lorry controls

Weight or height restrictions are sometimes used to limit the size and frequency of heavy good vehicle in certain areas. The implementation of such measures requires detailed traffic counts and consultation with various bodies including the local Parish or Town Council.

There are very few situations where a total ban on lorries can be introduced. This is because the Government's Construction and Use regulations permit lorries up to 38 tonnes to go anywhere on the public highway network to deliver or load goods. This means that most lorry ban orders have to include an allowance for access movements to enable loading and unloading.
