Taxi fares

Fares for taxis are strictly controlled by the council. This does not apply to Private Hire, as the fare is negotiated at the time of booking. Salisbury District Council has introduced a Maximum Tariff, which allows drivers to charge anything up to the maximum fare displayed - that is, they may give discounts.

A copy of the Maximum Tariff is displayed in all licensed taxis. There are two main tariffs that operate from 7am–11 pm (Tariff 1) and 11pm–7am (Tariff 2), and a third that operates only on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Remember - the more people that travel, the cheaper it gets!

7am to 11pm

First 390 yards (2/9th of a mile or 356m) or part thereof

Each subsequent 195 yards (1/9th of a mile or 178m) or part thereof

Waiting time for each 48 seconds (= £15 per hour)

11pm to 7am and on all Public Holidays with the exception of those covered by Tariff 3

First 660 yards (3/8th of a mile or 603m) or part thereof

Each subsequent 220 yards (1/8th of a mile or 201m) or part thereof
