Providing a safe, clean, pleasant environment for citizens to walk in is a key part of Salisbury's transport vision.
Many of us choose to walk for a variety of reasons: for health benefits, for leisure, to save costs, or to benefit the environment. Through its Joint Transportation Team, Salisbury District Council is committed to improving the environment for pedestrians in and around Salisbury.
Throughout the city centre, you will see the results of regular and continuing improvements for pedestrians. Many of these improvements have targeted two of the council's key aims: to offer a safe and pedestrian-friendly city centre, and to provide greater accessibility for the mobility-impaired.
The city centre improvements include widened pavements, more dropped kerbs and additional crossing points.
Many people enjoy walking for leisure or for the health benefits. Salisbury District Council creates and participates in initiatives that make it easier for people to get out and about on foot, enjoy their surroundings and get the health benefits that regular walking brings.
