Cyclists

Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 June is Bike Week 2008. The district council has joined forces with Wiltshire County Council and the Cycling Opportunities Group for Salisbury (COGS) to organise a series of local cycling events in and around the city to celebrate its 10th annual Bike Week.

Events organised include a family bike awareness day, leisurely weekend and evening cycle rides, and a Mayoral cycle cavalcade and the Commuter Challenge, run in conjunction with Spire FM and Hayball Cycles.

Bike week events

  • Family Bike Awareness Day, Saturday 14 June in Queen Street, Salisbury – From 10am to 1pm there will be free bike health checks and cycle security markings for people who bring their bikes along; a display of bikes through the ages; free cycle rickshaw rides around the city centre and a cycling in Salisbury information stand.
  • Mayor's Bike Ride, Saturday 14 June – The Mayor of Salisbury will lead a cavalcade of cyclists from Queen Street on a short ride around the city centre at 12.15pm. Cyclists of all ages are welcome to take part. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Ride to the National Trust Rose Garden at Mottisfont Abbey, Sunday 15 June – This COGS organised ride is open to all cyclists aged 16 and over. This ride departs from Five Rivers Leisure Centre at 11am. Light refreshments can be brought at Mottisfont Abbey or alternatively you can bring a packed lunch.
  • Evening Ride to Hurdcott, Thursday 19 June – This short COGS evening ride to the nearby village of Hurdcott departs from Five Rivers Leisure Centre at 6.30pm and includes a stop for refreshments at the Black Horse in Hurdcott. Cyclists of all ages are welcome to take part. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Dawn Ride, Saturday 21 June – Greet the Summer Solstice sunrise at Stonehenge on this COGS bike ride. Set your alarm clocks early and wrap up warm, as this ride leaves Five Rivers Leisure Centre at 3am. The ride returns to Salisbury at around 8am. This COGS organised ride is open to all cyclists aged 16 and over.
  • The Golden Way Ride, Sunday 22 June – Join COGS as they lead cyclists on a leisurely ride around the edge of Salisbury along the Golden Way cycle route. The ride departs from outside the Five Rivers Leisure Centre at 11am and includes a stop en route for a pub lunch. This is a COGS organised ride that is open to all ages. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
