Connect2 project

Connect2 has won the vote and scooped £50 million of lottery money! www.thepeoples50million.org.uk.

We asked for your support for Sustrans’ Connect2, an exciting UK-wide project that will improve travel in 79 communities by creating new walking and cycling routes for the local journeys we all make every day. One of the 79 communities that Connect2 will help is Salisbury.

Connect2 will connect people to their local places so that they can choose to travel in ways that benefit their health and the environment. It seeks to overcome real barriers in order to offer people the chance to walk and cycle to their local schools, shops, places of work and green spaces.

Here in Salisbury, Connect2 is aiming to deliver a continuous, safe walking and cycling route along the A36. The planned route will connect Wilton, in the west, with Alderbury, in the east, via Salisbury city centre.

The Connect2 project already has the support of Salisbury District Council, Wiltshire County Council, COGS (Cycling Opportunities Group for Salisbury) and Sustrans. Connect2 was one of four projects competing for a single grant of £50 million in the Big Lottery Fund’s 'The People’s £50 Million' contest. Which project wins the £50 million grant was decided by a public vote on ITV1.
