Residents' parking

About this service

Residents' Zones allow residents to park legally within the bays provided for them close to where they live. The scheme also provides for residents' visitors.

All schemes operate between the hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, except bank holidays.

You will need

  • Completed application form.
  • Proof of residency, such as a council tax demand, current utility bill, tenancy/lease agreement or Rent Book. These documents should show your name and address.
  • Proof of ownership of the vehicle (such as the vehicle registration document)
  • Current drivers licence

This is a postal service but you can obtain an application form by phone, email, or in person, or download it from this page.

Payment

  • Residents' Only Parking Zones - £35 per permit with a maximum of 2 per residence. This allocation is reduced by one permit for each off-street parking space available within the residence.
  • Limited Waiting Residents' Parking Zones - £15 with a maximum of 2 per residence. This allocation is reduced by one permit for each off-stree parking space available within the residence.
  • Daily visitor's scratch cards - 30p per permit, in books of 5 or 10. Residents living in Limited Waiting Residents' Parking Zones are entitled to buy 50 daily visitor scratchcards per year. Residents living in Residents' Only Parking Zone can buy 100 daily scratchcards per year. Residents can buy umlimited additional daily visitor scratchcards at a cost equivalent to all day parking in the city centre.
  • Annual Visitor Parking Permit - free of charge. Residents who are over the age of 60 or are housebound, do not own a car and live in a household to which no permit has been issued may apply for an open annual visitors parking permit.
  • Business Parking Permit - £15 for businesses situated within Limited Waiting Residents' Parking Zones, and £35 for businesses situated within Residents' Only Parking Zones. Business parking permits are designed to be handed out and collected back in, for customers who need to park in a residents' parking zone while visiting a business located there. A maximum of two permits are issued to businesses with no off-street parking.
