Pay by phone when you park

You can now pay for your parking in Salisbury's main car parks by picking up your mobile phone.

Instead of carrying change for the parking machine, you simply make one phonecall and pay using your chosen debit or credit card. You can also sign up for text messages to remind you what time your parking ticket runs out, or phone again to pay for extra time.

The scheme applies to most car parks in Salisbury:

How do I sign up?

When you park your car in one of the car parks that's using the phone system, you will see signs giving you the phone number that you'll need to call.

The first time you use the system, you'll need to provide your vehicle's number plate, your credit or debit card details, and your mobile number. Your mobile number acts as your account number.

The system will prompt you to enter the special number allocated to each car park, so it knows where you are. These numbers will be clearly signposted. Then you will be asked how long you want to park for, and whether you want to sign up for text messages reminding you when your parking is about to run out.

Once you have signed up the first time, you just need to make one short call and the system will remember your mobile number, so there is no need to enter all your card and number plate details again. You'll just have to enter the car park identification number and the length of your stay.

What does it cost?

You will pay an extra 10p when paying for tariffs less than £2. The charge is 20p for parking fees of £2 or more. Additional text messages to remind you when your parking is running out are optional and cost 10p.

What are the benefits?

There are lots of reasons to pay by phone:

  • No need to carry the right change with you
  • Don't waste time looking for the Pay and Display machine and then taking your ticket back to your vehicle
  • No need to return to the car park to top up your parking payment if you decide to stay longer
  • Without a ticket on your dashboard advertising how long you'll be away, there is a reduced risk of theft and break-in
  • Reminder messages so you don't forget to return to your car, and will avoid parking fines
  • Look up your invoices and receipts online

How will the civil enforcement officers know I have paid to park?

There is no ticket in your windscreen to show you have paid, but don't worry, you won't get a fine for paying by mobile! Salisbury's civil enforcement officers all carry small computers that are connected to the phone payment system. They will be able to enter your vehicle licence plate number and check that you've paid and until what time.

How can I find out how much I have spent and get a receipt?

You can manage your parking account on a special website set up with Verrus, the company that powers our phone payment system. You can view transactions, print receipts, change your card payment details, and even remove or add new cars to your account. You can have more than one car registered to a mobile account number.

Is my information safe on the payment system and website?

The Verrus website is safe and secure. Information held on that website is covered by the Data Protection Act and cannot be shared with other people without your knowledge and agreement. Only you can access your own account information, using your account number (your mobile number) and a secret PIN (personal idenfication number).
