Unlicensed waste clearance operators

As part of the Clean Neighbourhood Act, householders now have a duty of care to make sure their waste is disposed of legally. This means that you are responsible for making sure that your goods are not flytipped by a third person. If your goods are dumped illegally and traced back to you, you could face a fine of up to £5,000.

If you are approached by a household clearance company:

  • Ask to see a copy of the firm's waste carriers' licence
  • Obtain a waste transfer note, or a receipt, and a valid company name, address and telephone number

You can dispose of your waste free of charge by taking household goods to the household waste recycling centres at Churchfields, Salisbury and in Amesbury. The council's bulky household waste collection service costs from £10 (discounts available for Wisecard holders).
