Commercial waste - frequently asked questions

What is Trade Refuse?

It is waste produced by businesses e.g. shops, hotels, offices, factories, etc.

How much does it cost to have trade refuse removed by the council?

Charges are reviewed annually. They include waste removal and disposal charges, landfill tax and a hire fee for bulk containers where applicable.

The collection of waste paper and cardboard (salvage) is free of charge.

Why isn't the charge included in the Business Rate?

By law, (Environmental Protection Act 1990) all local authorities must make a separate charge for this service.
