Commercial waste

Businesses have a legal responsibility under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to store their waste and ensure it is disposed of at a suitably licensed site by a registered carrier of waste. The council offers a daily collection service to companies in the city and a weekly service in the remainder of the district, although more frequent collections can be arranged in some circumstances.

If you want the council to collect your trade waste you will need to complete a Trade Waste Agreement and Duty of Care Note, both available on request from the council. The Duty of Care is a law which says that you must take all reasonable steps to keep waste safe. If you give waste to someone else you must be sure they are authorised to take it and can transport, recycle or dispose of it safely.

There are special rules about industrial waste and hazardous waste.
