What has improved?
  • The council will be able to tell you on what day your items will be collected.
  • Items will no longer need to be left out for up to 4 weeks.
  • Items can be put out the night before collection is due.
  • Items will be sorted to make sure we recycle as many as possible.
  • Fewer items will go to landfill sites.
How many items can be collected?
A maximum of six items can be collected.
When will the items be collected?
Normally within 2 weeks. Your items will be collected on the next available day that has been nominated for the area in which you live.
How do I know what day my items will be collected?
Our staff will advise you of the next available date when you arrange the collection.
Where can I leave the items for collection?
Items should be placed within the curtilage of your home (e.g. in your back or front garden or on a path or drive) and must be accessible on the day scheduled for collection. The council is not insured to remove items from inside your home, garage or shed.
Can I leave the items on the pavement?
No, but if you have nowhere else to leave the items the council will endeavour to make special arrangements for you. For example, this might apply if you have a house with no front or back garden, side path, forecourt or parking bay.
Can I leave the items in the communal bin shed serving my property?
Yes, but you must arrange for them to be collected and pay the fee in the normal way.
What is the cost?
  • £10 for one item.
  • £20 for 2-6 items.
  • A discount of 65% is offered to Wisecard holders.
How can I pay?
  • By telephone using your credit/debit card. Collections paid for by card will be booked at the time of payment.
  • By cheque at one of the council's offices listed on the previous page or by post. Cheques should be made payable to Salisbury District Council. Remember to include a note of all the information required to process your request.
Will my collection be delayed if I pay by cheque?
Yes. At least 10 days will have to elapse after receipt of the cheque before collection can be made. You will be contacted and told the date on which your items will be removed.
Can I pay by cash?
If you do not have a credit/debit card or cheque book our staff will explain how to pay by cash when you ring to book your collection. Please do not send cash in the post.
What items can be collected?
Any household items that you would expect to take with you if you moved house. See list of items.
What items cannot be collected?
We cannot take rubble, soil, etc. or items that are more than 6 ft long/high. See list of items.
What if I have more than 6 items to be collected?
The council will be glad to quote for collecting more than 6 items – an hourly rate is charged.
Can I hire a skip?
Yes, but not from the council. Please consult your local Yellow Pages directory.
Where can I take my rubbish if I don't want to pay?

You can take rubbish to the civic amenity sites at:

  • Stephenson Road, Churchfields Industrial Estate, Salisbury
  • London Road, Amesbury

What if I need to cancel the collection?
You must give at least 2 working days' notice e.g. Friday if due to be collected on Tuesday.
