The formal consultation period on the new 'Our Place In The Future' magazine runs between 1 September 2008 and 24 October 2008. The following will assist in helping you consider our proposals.
Salisbury District Council is preparing a Local Development Framework. The Local Development Framework is a series of documents, which will eventually replace the Salisbury Local Plan that was adopted in 2003. It will set out planning policies which promote and control development throughout the district.
The first Local Development Framework document is the Core Strategy, which will provide the overarching planning policies for the district for the next 20 years. At this stage we are seeking to identify strategic housing and employment sites for the first five years. Later documents will develop policies concerning particular parts of the district or particular topics such as design and conservation.
We have previously consulted you on the
Core Strategy Preferred Options document 8.5mb,
which in turn built on the initial Our Place in the Future consultation.
We received in excess of 8000 comments from more than 2000 individuals to our previous consultation. The output report of the responses and our comments on them will be available to view from 1 September 2008.
In developing our suggestions we have used a wealth of background information, guidance, surveys, and analysis which collectively we refer to as the ‘evidence’ or ‘evidence base’. This is all public information and can be viewed at: core strategy evidence and guidance.
Having
analysed the comments received we have produced a new, simplified magazine entitled
Our Place In The Future 969kb. This sets out our proposals and gives you another opportunity to have
your say about a range of important issues.
The consultation document is accompanied by a Sustainability Appraisal Report.
Preferred options sustainability appraisal - complete report 1.9mb
Preferred options sustainability appraisal - including non-technical summary 200kb

We know that many people are concerned about the extent of new housing and employment land the council is required to find under the Regional Spatial Strategy. Whilst we understand these concerns, representations on these issues should be made directly to the South West Regional Assembly.
Proposed changes to the draft Regional Spatial Strategy consultation:
The new
magazine asks specific questions about the issues you thought we needed to do more work on. A copy of
the magazine, with a tear off form, should by now have been delivered to you by post. However, you can
also use the
Preferred options - consultation comment form 30kb to comment if you wish.
Comments received during the previous round of consultation on the core strategy preferred options can be viewed here.
If you responded to our previous core strategy consultation document, there is no need to do so again. However, new and additional comments are still welcome. To make a comment on this you should use the form below.
You should consider what it is you want to comment on and let us know whether you support or oppose this particular element of the document, explain your reasons and suggest any improvements.
You should use a separate comment sheet for each specific option, paragraph, map or table you wish to comment on and attach this to the contact details sheet. Additional sheets can be used if required.
Core Strategy Preferred Options document 8.5mb
Preferred options consultation comment form 593kb
Preferred options - consultation comment form 30kbPlease note that there is no need to use more than one method of submitting the same responses or comments, but all completed forms can be submitted:
The comments you submit on the Local Development Framework will be used in the planning policy process and may be used for the lifetime of the Local Development Framework. The information will be analysed and issues raised will be considered by Salisbury District Council. Please note that comments cannot be treated as confidential and will be made available for public inspection at the council’s offices. However, any data that you supply will be held in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
At the end of this consultation, we will re-draft the Preferred Options document into a ‘Submission Draft’ version of the Core Strategy, taking all public representations into account to ensure we have listened and responded properly. There will be another formal public consultation on this, and it is anticipated that by 31 March 2009 it will be submitted to the Secretary of State for consideration.
At a subsequent Examination in Public, this document will be scrutinised in detail under the supervision of a government planning inspector. A binding inspector’s report will then be published, which will determine whether or not the Core Strategy should be formally adopted as planning policy, and whether any changes should be made to it.
If you require any further information regarding the Local Development Framework process, or are unsure about any aspect of the consultation, please call or email the Forward Planning Team using any of the above methods and we will be happy to help. In the meantime please see our frequently-asked questions, or our Glossary of Planning jargon.
