DMC Dean Hill ('Dean Hill') is a disused Ministry of Defence (MoD) munitions depot situated on the outskirts of the village of West Dean.
Dean Hill straddles the Hampshire/Wiltshire border. Approximately two thirds of the site lies in Test Valley Borough, and the remainder lies in Salisbury District. The site was officially closed in April 2004.
Salisbury District Council has produced a Planning Position Statement for the Dean Hill site. It was formally adopted by the council in September 2005.
The position statement explains the council's policy position regarding the future of the site. It was prepared in partnership with Test Valley Borough Council which also has part of the site within its boundary. Test Valley BC has prepared its own position statement for the part of site in its area. This can be viewed online through the link below.
A joint consultation exercise was undertaken by the two councils, including a series of planning workshops with the local community. The original intention was to produce a joint planning position statement but following consultation, and the review of the Test Valley Local Plan, it became necessary for Salisbury District Council to produce a separate statement which was consistant with the policies of its Local Plan.
It is important that both planning position statements are read in conjunction as part of a comprehensive approach to the future of the site.
