In August 2007 Salisbury District Council appointed a consultant to undertake an up-to-date and comprehensive assessment of the landscape character of the district. The assessment would enable a better understanding of the district’s landscapes and will provide the context for policies and proposals within the forthcoming Local Development Framework (LDF) for Salisbury district.
The Landscape Character Assessment provides an integrated assessment of the character of the district and will serve as a baseline of environmental information. It will aid understanding of the diversity, character, distinctiveness, sensitivity to change and management needs of the district's landscapes. The Landscape Character Assessment will be specifically used as a technical evidence base to inform the Local Development Framework currently being prepared by the council.
