The consultation period officially ended on 25 April 2008 but representations received on or before 9 May 2008 will be accepted.
Salisbury District Council is preparing a Local Development Framework (LDF). The LDF is a series of documents which will eventually replace the Salisbury Local Plan that was adopted in 2003. It will set out planning policies which promote and control development throughout the district.
The first LDF document is the Core Strategy, which will provide the overarching planning policies for the district for the next 20 years. Later documents will develop policies concerning particular parts of the district - such as a forthcoming Area Action Plan for Salisbury and Wilton - or particular topics such as design and conservation.
This document builds on the Our Place in the Future consultation we carried out between July and October 2007, where we asked for comment on a range of issues and options for tackling the challenges the district faces. Having analysed the comments received we have produced this Preferred Options document, to give you another opportunity to have your say about a range of important issues.

The comments you submit on the Local Development Framework will be used in the plan process and may be used for the lifetime of the LDF. The information will be analysed and issues raised will be considered by Salisbury District Council. Please note that comments cannot be treated as confidential and will be made available for public inspection at the council’s offices. However, any data that you supply will be held in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
In developing the Preferred Options document we have used a wealth of background information, guidance, surveys, and analysis which collectively we refer to as the ‘evidence’. This is all public information. See the core strategy evidence and guidance.
At the end of this consultation, we will re-draft the Preferred Options document into a “Submission Draft” version of the Core Strategy, taking all public representations into account to ensure we have listened and responded properly. In the summer of 2008, this revised document will be submitted to the Secretary of State for consideration, and at the same time there will be another formal public consultation.
An Examination in Public is scheduled for January 2009 at which this document will be scrutinised in detail under the supervision of a government planning inspector. A binding inspector’s report will be published in autumn 2009 which will determine whether or not the Core Strategy should be formally adopted as planning policy, and whether any changes should be made to it.
