The Strategic Land Availability Assessment is part of our preparation and gathering of evidence for the Local Development Framework (LDF).
In 2007 we published a draft methodology for how we will carry out the assessment and asked for your comments on it.
We also now invited you to let us know of sites in the district that may have potential for development, using the special proforma we have produced.
Both comments on the methodology and identification of potential development sites were invited during a six week period from 10 May to 22 June 2007.
Government policy requires local authorities to produce a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment for their housing market area that should:
This work builds on previous studies and is designed to provide a more realistic and justifiable indication of capacity. It will ensure that the new planning policies within the Local Development Framework (LDF) are based on reliable evidence and are therefore deliverable.
Download our draft methodology for carrying out the Strategic Land Availability Assessment and send us your comments.
The Strategic Land Availability Study has been widened to include land for employment, retail, tourism, leisure or a mix of these uses. The study will identify potential sites, the sites’ unconstrained potential and any constraints that may exist. It will also make realistic assessments of brownfield land available and identify the actions that may be needed to be taken to make sites available, suitable and viable for development.
If the Strategic Land Availability Study identifies land as having potential, it will not imply that the land will be allocated for development. We will be assessing the constraints and deciding whether sites should be developed as part of work on the Local Development Framework.
Please use this proforma to suggest sites that you think Salisbury District Council should consider for development over the next 20 years.
