Salisbury District Hospital
A development brief has been prepared by the Salisbury NHS Trust in partnership with Salisbury District Council to help shape future development on Salisbury District Hospital site. The purpose of the Development Brief is to share the vision of future health care provision at Salisbury District Hospital (SDH) with the community to enhance everyone's understanding of the site's operation and future development. The document was adopted by the council on 28 February 2007.

What does it show?
The Brief shows where clinical services will be housed in improved buildings, indicates the standards of estate development required and approaches to enhancement which will improve the hospital environment for all its users.
The Trust wishes to develop a partnering approach with the district council to ensure, for example, that:
- First class health facilities are provided,
- Buildings are of the highest design quality, both operationally and aesthetically.
- Measures can be put in place to address the transport issues facing the site
- Improvements to the environment are made in terms of personal safety, landscaping and public art.
Why do we need a Development Brief?
There is a lot of change taking place at Salisbury District Hospital. Older buildings are being replaced and clinical services across the site are being moved. There are also significant challenges facing the development of the site, most notably in terms of transport and parking This document is a means for stakeholders to understand how the Hospital, in partnership with Salisbury District Council, intend to manage future development on the site for the benefit of patients, staff and others who may live on, work at or visit the site.
At an operational level the document will provide an agreed planning framework for the Hospital site which will enable future development proposals to be better understood within the context of the site. By having this in place, investment can be rapidly harnessed for the benefit of patients without time consuming delays in the planning process.
This open and collaborative approach is a positive benefit to the Trust, the district and county councils, and not least the whole community.
Formal public consultation
From 6 October to 17 November 2005, the Trust and Salisbury District Council ran a 6 week consultation period to seek the views of the community on the content of the brief.
