Forward planning

Forward planning is mainly concerned with producing the Local Development Framework, a planning policy framework to guide development in the South area, and which will replace the Local Plan. We are currently developing the Core Strategy and are carrying out a major consultation exercise on the Core Strategy Preferred Options.

Other services include the preparation of supplementary planning guidance such as development briefs and guidance on sustainable development, providing planning policy advice, and supporting community-based planning initiatives such as parish plans.

Wiltshire Council Local Development Framework

A new unitary authority (Wiltshire Council) will be formed on the 1 April 2009 to replace the existing district councils of Kennet, North Wiltshire, Salisbury and West Wiltshire, along with the current Wiltshire County Council. The spatial planning policy functions of the 4 authorities have already been transferred to the Implementation Executive as the body responsible for the creation of the new Council. As a consequence work is already underway to produce a single Local Development Framework (LDF) for Wiltshire Council. In particular work has started to make sure the necessary processes to help prepare new planning policies are in place.

Follow this link (www.wiltshire.gov.uk/wiltshireldf )to find out more about the new documents being prepared for the Wiltshire Council LDF and the current consultation on Sustainability Appraisal. On the first of April the existing, adopted planning policy documents currently available on Salisbury district council’s 's web site will continue to be applied within south Wiltshire for the purpose of considering planning applications until they are updated or replaced by policies prepared by the new Council.
