Conservation

South Wiltshire has almost 3,000 listed buildings and 70 conservation areas.

In addition to the regular planning controls, special conservation area consent is required for certain external works to buildings within a conservation area, including demolition and also some works to trees.

If you wish to demolish, alter or extend a listed building in a way that affects its character, you must have listed building consent, which may be in addition to any other necessary consents such as planning permission or building regulations.

The council also designates new conservation areas and is currently reviewing the existing areas through a series of conservation area appraisals.

You may find it helpful to read the frequently asked questions and useful leaflets and links or to use the search below to find out if a particular building is listed or in a conservation area.
