Compost it!
From April 2008, green-lidded wheeled bins will be available for those who would like the council to remove their garden waste.
This is an optional, fortnightly collection service costing £26 per bin per year, using our new, green-lid wheeled bins. Your year of service will commence from the date of your first collection.
The new service will ensure that your garden waste will be composted at a local farm composting site producing a high grade compost and eliminating the need to transport garden waste long distances.
Collection of garden waste using pre-paid paper sacks will stop and be replaced by the new optional fortnightly wheeled bin collection. The last collection of the paper sacks will be 2 May 2008.
The introduction of this scheme will follow a similar timetable to that of the household waste bin roll-out but may vary depending upon demand.
If you would like to receive this optional service, telephone or email the council now to order your wheeled bin or fill in our online form.
From October 2008 we will only collect garden waste in the wheeled garden waste bin (with a green lid). We will not collect household waste that contains garden waste.
The ‘green plastic garden waste bag’ scheme will be phased out through the summer and stop completely in October 2008.
