The first Doorstep Walk packs were developed for Salisbury and Wilton, these were followed by Tisbury and finally in June 2001 a pack of 12 walks were launched for Amesbury, Durrington and Bulford.
The packs all encourage people to walk in their own locale, thus negating the need to drive to a starting point. Packs contain 10-12 walks, each produced on a separate card showing a map of the route and any points of interest along the way. Each walk varies in time, distance and difficulty and the cards have information on these aspects and give brief outlines on the time a walk should take and general tips about path condition etc.
There are a number of trained, voluntary 'walk leaders' (although more are always needed) who are willing to take people on walks.
