Council house - right to buy scheme

About this service

Tenants of Salisbury District Council have the right to purchase their home with a discount after:

  • 2 or more years if your tenancy period started before 18/01/2005,
  • 5 years if your tenancy started after 18/01/2005.

In either case the council will take into account any tenancy you have held with any other council, housing association or the armed forces.

There are several exceptions to the Right to Buy, such as if your home is part of a sheltered housing scheme for the elderly. Please contact the council for further details of properties that are exempt.

Please note: You will loose your Right to Buy if your tenancy ceases to be a secure tenancy.

You will need to fill in an Adobe PDFRTB1 Notice claiming the right to buy application form 127kb which you can obtain together with the Your right to buy leaflet. Or you can contact the council, using the methods below, for an application form.

You should sign your application form and send it to the address shown on the form.

For more questions and answers see Frequently asked questions.
