What repairs am I responsible for?

As the tenant of a council property you are responsible for the following repairs:
  • Fencing and gates
  • Plugs and chains for sinks, basins and baths
  • Installing electric or gas cookers. NB this must be done by a qualified electrician or Corgi registered gas engineer
  • Decoration of the inside of your property
  • Door key replacement. If you are locked out and we send out a locksmith we would invoice you for the callout and any work done
  • TV aerials, except if you have a shared aerial
  • Installing washing machines
Repairs that we will make a charge for

We will invoice for any repairs that are a result of damage caused by a tenant. We also will charge you if we call out an electrical contractor when you lose electrical power and it is found to be caused by one of your appliances or because the credit on a pre-pay key meter has run out. If you are locked out due to lost or stolen keys we will charge you for sending out a locksmith. It is often cheaper to call out a contractor privately.

What should I do if I am not in a council property and my landlord refuses to do my repairs?
