Benefit - repay an overpayment of benefit

About this service

You can pay back a Housing Benefit overpayment by any of the following methods:

  • Credit/debit card (by telephone)
    Using the 24 hour automatic payment line on 01722 434264.
  • In person at a Post Office
    Using payment slips requested from the Housing Benefit Office
  • In person at Pennyfarthing House
    Payments up to £30 only.
  • By post (to the address below)
    Cheques should be made payable to Salisbury District Council. Quote your reference number, and name and address on the back, or enclose your rent swipe card. You will be sent a receipt immediately.
  • Online
    Using our secure online payments service

Please note that you cannot make an overpayment in person.

This service is free, as long as you keep up the payments.

If you are still receiving payment for Housing Benefit, then an agreement can be set up to set a level of deduction from the benefit payments. The minimum deduction taken is £9 a week.

If you have only paid part of the amount then an agreement must be set up to pay the remainder.

You will need

  • The invoice number
    You will have received this with the overpayment invoice.
