The strategic aim of the Street Cleansing Services is to provide a comprehensive and reliable street cleansing service.
The street cleansing service is provided throughout the district. Programmed works are carried out in towns and major village centres. Specific emphasis is also placed on litter picking grass verges and lay-bys, the provision of two fully equipped units to undertake programmed and 'on demand' work in all parishes and the removal of fly tipping in rural areas.
A comprehensive street cleaning service is provided throughout the City. The community plan target is to reduce complaints about street cleanliness in the City to one per month by 2002.

The service is delivered through a client and contractor working arrangement with Salisbury Commercial Services. The existing contract is due to expire in March 2003 when, as part of the 'Street Scene' Services Best Value Review, all aspects of service provision and delivery of both the Waste Collection and Street Cleansing services will be critically examined.
Litterbins are emptied on a regular basis; this ranges from 4 times a day to weekly.
All subways are cleansed on a regular basis. The frequency of the cleansing depends on the public usage.
