River cleaning

The following lengths of river are cleansed by the council twice weekly including the removal of litter, debris and discarded items including shopping trolleys, traffic cones, etc. from the watercourse and adjoining embankments.

  • The river from Butts Road bridge to Crane Street bridge (passing the Boat House, rear of the Library, Town Mill and The Town House)
  • Feeder stream alongside Central Car Park East, through the Maltings
  • The stream from Queen Elizabeth Gardens to Fisherton Street running alongside Water Lane
  • The stream alongside Central Car Park
  • The council also clears the ditch alongside Churchill Way South (Friary) each week.

Riparian owners (i.e. owners of the land abutting a river) are responsible for keeping their stretch of the waterway clear and free-flowing.
