Foot and mouth

The beautiful south Wiltshire countryside is open to enjoy and travel freely and safely within, despite the current case of food and mouth disease near Guildford in Surrey.

There are no official footpath or rights of way closures in the area, so you can enjoy walking and cycling in the area, provided that you act responsibly and adhere to the Countryside Code as usual.

Animal attractions in the area are remaining open as usual, however restrictions on movement of livestock have resulted in changes at agricultural shows.

  • Bush Farm Bison Centre is open as usual.
  • Farmer Giles Working Farm Park is open as usual
  • Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm is open, but you will be asked to dip your footwear, prams etc in disinfectant before entering the grounds, and petting the animals will be from the other side of the fence rather than in the animal pens.

Visit your local Tourism Information Centre or see www.visitsalisbury.com for more local attractions.

Anyone who is concerned about the unauthorised movement of livestock can contact the county council on 01225 713557 (for west and north Wiltshire) and 01722 337459 (for Salisbury and Kennet).
