Environment and nature

The Salisbury area is an extremely important place for nature conservation. The quality of the landscape, and the biodiversity it affords, is extremely high.

Within easy reach of our boundaries there are:

  • 5 National Nature Reserves
  • 6 Special Areas for Conservation
  • 62 Sites of Special Scientific Interest
  • 1 Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs
  • 2 Salisbury District Council Local Nature Reserves
  • 11 Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Reserves

Salisbury District Council takes a proactive approach to local conservation and the environment.

The council's transport and development planning focuses on protecting the local environment impact, and minimising the impact of traffic or development on nature.
