Dependent on species and location, Salisbury District Council will often remove dead animals from public land that have been reported to them. Whenever possible, we will remove dead animals where we come across them during our work. We would also make arrangements to remove most carcasses, from pigeon size up, when reported in residential, commercial or recreational areas.
When domestic animals are found we will check them for tags or microchips and whenever we are able to identify the owner we will contact them and offer to return their pet.
If a dead animal is obstructing the highway, this should be reported to Clarence on 0800 23 23 23, who will forward the information on to the Highways Agency. They in turn will remove the animal.
If dead animals of cat size or larger are spotted on the verges of major or rural roads we will remove them if our staff can reach them safely.
In order to maintain an efficient service we need to prioritise our activities. This may result in some of the less urgent incidents being dealt with on the next scheduled visit to that area.
