There are two main sources of information for contaminated land enquires, which meet different needs.
This is usually the first source of information for members of the public. It is a register of action taken by the council under the terms of the contaminated land regime – it is not a register of land that is or might be contaminated.
The register now contains entries which can be viewed free of charge at Pennyfarthing House.
Individual entries on the register and entire copies of the register can be purchased from Environmental Services.
If you have queries about the register or would like details of how to buy copies, please contact us by phone on 01722 434319 or 434320, or email enhmail@salisbury.gov.uk
As part of the home purchasing process, 'environmental searches' are often carried out. These are generally a search by a specialist company of a database of historic Ordnance Survey maps and report on potentially contaminative land uses in the area of the search requested. Salisbury has a history of commercial and industrial uses. It should therefore be no surprise if such a search indicates industrial or commercial use.
We can provide a factual response to enquiries about historic land uses and potentially contaminated locations based on information we currently hold. We cannot however guarantee that a site is free from contamination and do not issue certificates to this effect.
