Salisbury District Council plans to build an extension behind our office at Bourne Hill and refurbish the Grade II* listed Council House.
The council has decided to proceed with the project, but the scheme will be modified from the original plans to truncate the extension so that the building does not encroach into the Walled Garden.
The contractual arrangements with Morgan Ashurst (formerly Bluestone), the main contractor, have been varied to accommodate the design changes.
On 5 September 2007 Cabinet approved a revised Design Brief. The proposed revisions have been kept to a minimum and are mindful of the constraints of the existing contract with the builder, planning and listed building consents, the overall cost implications, the programme, timescales and the council's aspiration to start work on site in the summer of 2008.
The repair and refurbishment of Bourne Hill will remain as a priority of the council and the works will be undertaken as part of the main contract.
As a result of the decision to reduce the footprint of the building there is now the need to develop a landscape proposal for the Walled Garden. It is proposed that the Design Team will work with elected members and the community to agree such a scheme.
A further report was considered by Cabinet at its December 2007 meeting. The Stage D reports are available for public inspection at Pennyfarthing House from 7 December 2007.
Please note that the Bourne Hill offices are now closed to the public. Find out which of our office locations you should visit instead.
