Apply to go on the electoral register

About this service

To vote in an election or referendum your name must be included in the Register of Electors.

You should register to vote if you are:-

  • 16 or over (you cannot vote until your 18th birthday)
  • a British or Commonwealth citizen; or
  • a citizen of the Irish Republic or of another EU member state.

Citizens of EU member states (other than the UK, the Irish Republic, or Members of the Commonwealth) cannot vote in UK Parliamentary elections and must fill in a separate form to vote in European elections.

The Annual Canvass

The Register is updated annually from registration forms sent to every house in the District between mid-August and mid-November. The new Register will be published on or before 1 December each year.

Although the voter registration form must be completed and returned every autumn, you can also apply to register using the rolling registration application form. However only one or the other is necessary. The annual voter registration forms can be accepted until Friday 16 November 2007.
