Stand as a parish councillor

About this service

  • Are you interested in making a difference?
  • Do you like to get involved?
  • Do you care what happens in your community?

If the above sounds like you, then you could be the right person to stand for election to your local parish council.

Full elections to parish councils take place once every four years – the next ones are due to be held in 2011. However by-elections can arise at any time.

Further information on being a parish councillor is available from your parish clerk or from the Wiltshire Association of Local Councils (telephone 01380 729549).

You will need

In order to stand for elections a candidate must be qualified and must submit a nomination paper signed by two electors for the parish or parish ward together with a consent to nomination by the statutory deadline. Additional requirements apply if you wish to stand on behalf of a registered political party.

Nomination papers and candidates' packs including details of qualifications and the electoral process are available from the Electoral Services Team when an election is to be held.

Payment
