Parish clerks

Parish and town councils are an important tier of local government, at the roots of local democracy. Through increased government commitment and recognition by other organisations and key stakeholders, parish and town councils are now at the forefront of renewed community democracy.

Your parish or town council represents your local community in consultation with the other local government organisations (such as Salisbury District Council). It has a say in planning applications, community transport schemes, street lighting and many other factors affecting your community's quality of life.

The parish clerk is the officer of the parish council. Contact your parish clerk if you have any queries about the responsibilities of your parish council, or to find contact details for your parish councillors. Many parish councils also have information published online at www.southwilts.com
