If the above sounds like you, then you sound like the right person to stand for Election to the District Council.
Full elections to the District Council take place once every four years – the next ones are due to be held in May 2007. However by-elections can arise at any time.
Successful candidates will find plenty of variety and challenge. You'll be the voice of your constituents and an ambassador for your community. The workload will be heavy but you will gain satisfaction through representing your community and being involved in all aspects of the Council from planning applications to multi-million pound projects.
In order to stand for elections a candidate must be qualified and must submit a nomination paper signed by ten electors for the electoral ward together with a consent to nomination by the statutory deadline. Additional requirements apply if you wish to stand on behalf of a registered political party.
Nomination papers and candidates' packs including details of qualifications and the electoral process are available from the Electoral Services Team when an election is to be held.
Free. Deposits are not required at District Council Elections.
