Wiltshire unitary council

In December 2006, Wiltshire County Council submitted a bid to set up a mega council, taking over all local services and running them from Trowbridge. The new council is set to be named Wiltshire Council with its first election in May 2009.

On 25 July 2007, the government announced that the Wiltshire unitary bid has been successful and single authority will be set up for the whole county. Read more information on the county council site.

In February 2008, One Council for Wiltshire gained parliamentary approval.
