Vision, ambition and core values

Vision

In association with our Local Strategic Partnership, the South Wiltshire Strategic Alliance, we have developed the following vision for Salisbury and south Wiltshire:

 

A place where a rich heritage, vibrant cultural life and magnificent environment is supported by:

  • a thriving economy
  • lively, diverse and safe communities providing equal opportunities for all; and
  • strong public agencies and voluntary bodies co-operating in the delivery of practical support for those in need

Ambition

In support of this vision for the community, Salisbury District Council's ambition is:

 

"To be a nationally recognised high performing Council with a strong emphasis on partnership working and engaging the community."

Core values

The council has adopted a set of core values that spell out in broad terms what we are aiming to achieve for the residents of Salisbury and south Wiltshire.

The council aims to:

  • Provide excellent service: through being courteous, friendly, flexible, responsive and helpful and not being bureaucratic, rude, arrogant or impatient in our dealings with people.
  • Promote a thriving local economy: by recognising that economic prosperity in South Wiltshire benefits everybody.
  • Promote fairness and equal opportunity for all by treating all sections of the community with respect and working towards equality of access and opportunity.
  • Communicate, especially listening and responding by explaining our proposals and our actions. We want to actively encourage involvement in decisions that affect people's everyday lives.
  • Be open and honest and continually try to improve and learn.
  • Meet local needs, especially those of disadvantaged groups and individuals.
  • Work together with other public, private and voluntary sector organisations to develop an better, more sustainable district.
  • Achieve practical results and give excellent value for money through well motivated employees who enjoy working for a progressive employer.

Political priorities

  • Deliver efficient and customer focused services that give local people value for money.
  • Work with partners to improve the well being of all local people and their opportunity to enjoy life.
  • Improve access to affordable homes for local people.
  • Sustain a cleaner, greener, safer and attractive place to live and work now and for the future.
  • Give people opportunities to influence their community and neighbourhood.
