State of the District Debate

The annual State of the District debate took place on Monday 29 January 2007 at Salisbury’s City Hall.

Under the title of A Place to Call Home the debate examined the issues and challenges of providing affordable housing for future generations. Issues discussed included shared ownership, rented housing, buying a home and the council’s housing policies.

Hosted by the Leader of the council, Cllr Richard Britton, the panel included representatives from the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the Housing Corporation and the Home Builders Federation.

The debate wasl be the third of three events taking place throughout the day. The morning session brought together partner organisations and other stakeholders to discuss the council’s strategic approach to providing affordable homes. In the afternoon, a special exhibition featured a range of organisations with advice and information on affordable home ownership.
