Salisbury District Council is committed to consulting with the local community. You have voted for us so that we can govern on your behalf, and this gives us the responsibility to take your opinions into account when making decisions. We also want you to be interested in the future of south Wiltshire and in making your voice heard at local elections. What is a consultation?

A consultation is a process for getting the views of the community about policies or strategies that the council is proposing. We use a mixture of methods to get your opinion, such as online questionnaires, door-to-door surveys and workshops.

What happens to the results of consultation?

Your elected district councillors make the final decision on most policies. This takes into account the results of consultation, but they also have to consider also other factors such as costs, resources and the requirements of national government. If their decision is different from the conclusions reached by community consultation, councillors will have to tell you their reasons and clearly justify their decision.
