Speaking at council meetings

About this service

At the beginning of every meeting of councillors 15 minutes is set aside for public questions or statements to the Chairman of the committee, panel, Council or Cabinet.

All questions are required to be submitted before NOON on the working day before the meeting at which you wish to ask the question. Questions may be submitted by fax, email, post or telephone using the contacts below. If you would prefer, you can download a Adobe PDFPublic question time form 41kb to guide you through the process.

Any questions or statements must relate to council policy (rather than specific planning applications).

As time is limited, questions or statements must be taken on a first come, first served basis, so if you wish to ask a question, it is in your interest to notify the contact officer prior to that meeting.

Each speaker will be allowed 3 minutes in which to put their question, or statement.

If you wish to receive an answer at the meeting, then you are advised to submit your question in writing to the contact officer at least 48 hours in advance. This will give the Chairman an opportunity to research and prepare a proper answer. In such cases, you will receive a written answer within 10 working days of the meeting.
