Council tax - frequently asked questions

How do I appeal against my property band?

If there has been a change to your property or you are a new taxpayer and you consider your band is incorrect you should contact The Listing Officer of the Valuation Office Agency.

If you decide to appeal against the band you must still pay the Council Tax based on the existing band until such tme as the appeal is settled.

You may also query the bill if you consider you are not liable to pay Council Tax, if you wish us to review your situation please write to us. For example, you are not living in the property, or because you consider it to be exempt, or we may have worked the bill out incorrectly.

How do I know if my property can be exempt from Council Tax?
Council Tax is not charged on some properties (known as exempt properties). Please see the list of exempt properties to see if you qualify.
What type of discounts are available?
