Skip grants to parish and town councils
About this service
Parish councils can apply for skip grants which are payable exclusive of VAT. The grant is available to parishes with a population of up to 1000, and is based on the census of 2001.
The amount of grant for 2006/2007 is £398.
The grant may be used for the hire of skips or for a compactor vehicle and driver supplied by the council.
Skips: the parish council should hire these direct from a private skip company, pay the supplier and send a receipted invoice to Environmental Services for processing.
The council would expect to make reimbursement by cheque within one week direct to the parish council. Parishes may apply on each separate occasion on which a skip is hired or submit one claim for all their hire dates. The submissions must be made within the appropriate financial year.
Compactor: the parish council should contact Environmental Services to arrange for the hire of the compactor, giving at least four weeks notice. A supervisor will then contact the parish council to make arrangements to inspect the chosen site to ensure that it is suitable with regards to safety, location, and so on and also agree a date and time for the vehicle to be on site. The cost (approximately £300) will be deducted from the grant and the remaining grant money can be used to advertise the event. This can be claimed back by submitting a copy of the invoice to Environmental Services.
The council does not hire skips to companies or householders.
