Play strategy

Salisbury District Council has been working in partnership with the other Wiltshire councils to develop a Play Strategy for south Wiltshire.

The catalyst for this strategy has been the availability of funding specifically for provision of play opportunities for district councils through the Big Lottery Fund. We are committed to embedding play and raising the profile of play throughout the district and with other key stakeholder organisations in their geographical areas.

We have put together a Adobe PDFPlay strategy 354kb and Adobe PDFPlay Strategy Action Plan 167kb drawing on evidence from local consultation undertaken within the district.

'Shine' Bus , Play Rangers project and Children's Festival

Big Lottery Fund logo

In December 2007 we won £208,342 from the Big Lottery Fund to improve play opportunities for local children. We are planning three specific projects with this funding:

The 'Shine Bus' and the Play Rangers project will be taking play provision directly to those in most need, both projects are mobile and are able to be flexible and responsive to the needs of the children and young people. They provide a range of opportunities for play using equipment, imagination and the creativity of the children and young people, utlising outdoor play, informal sports, games and arts and crafts.

The Children's Festival will provide free access for children and young people, of all backgrounds and abilities, to a range of diverse activities and play opportunities, including music and imaginative play, arts and crafts and physical activities.
