Charter market

What is the Charter market?

The charter market is a twice-weekly retail market held in Salisbury Market Square. The market is every Tuesday and Saturday, except on the third Tuesday in October (due to the annual fair).

The market is open from 8am until 4pm on both days, except between Christmas and Easter when it closes at 3.30pm.

The Tuesday market and the Saturday market have a very similar range of stalls. The market comprises 90 stalls of various sizes, along with 10 farmers' stalls. All stalls are allocated to regulars. Traders supply their own stalls, but the council owns and erects the 10 stalls used in the farmers' section.

Wilton Market

This is a small market, which is held in the market square, in the middle of Wilton. The market is held every Thursday throughout the year and consists of 8 stalls which are mostly foods. The day starts around 8am until 3.30pm.

Who runs the Charter market?

Salisbury District Council runs all markets in Salisbury Market Square, plus the Wilton market.

Vehicles

A small number of the traders' vehicles park on the market but the remainder park in the main council car park, which is only a few minutes away from the market.

Use the Salisbury Retail Market Application Form 40kb or Wilton Retail Market Application Form 39kb to make your application.Once completed and returned, applications are put on file until such times as a stall becomes vacant.

Casuals

Casual traders are welcome but can only be allocated a space if a regular trader does not turn in. Many are turned away due to a good attendance record by the regulars, but anyone turning up must have in their possession public liability insurance cover which is inspected before any pitches are allocated.

Conditions of trading

The markets are operated through a set of Conditions. These contain all relevant information required of a trader working the market and a copy of these conditions is available on request.

Payment

The following charges apply for each market and rents are paid on the day of trading:

Salisbury: regulars	10'x10' = £20.30, 20'x10' = £40.60
Salisbury: casual	10'x10' = £29.00, 20'x10' = £55.00
Wilton	10'x10' = £12.00, 20'x10' = £24.00
Vehicles	On market = £8.00 and £16.00, In car park = £5.00
