Weeks of action

During September, Salisbury District Council will be co-ordinating "Four Weeks in September” on behalf of a Wiltshire-wide campaign initiated by the Wiltshire Community Safety and Drugs Partnership. This campaign aims to raise awareness of some of the work being done in partnership in south Wiltshire to keep crime down and make communities safe.

It also aims to encourage members of the community to work with local organisations in helping to improve and strengthen their community. The Weeks of Action will provide an opportunity to highlight the activities which are being carried out to tackle the key priorities identified by the Neighbourhood Police Teams consultations which include:

  • litter and speeding;
  • alcohol related anti-social behaviour;
  • youth issues; and
  • public reassurance / crime prevention.

It is also an opportunity to promote the many activities that are already happening in south Wiltshire, which range from a wide range of sporting events and public roadshows where residents can have a chance to discuss community safety issues with a number of key organisations, to key community safety projects.

Road shows

The two road shows organised for south Wiltshire were held at the Market Square, Salisbury on Friday 5th September from 10am-1pm and the Central car park, Amesbury on Monday 15th September from 10am – 2pm.

Both events saw representatives from Salisbury District Council, Wiltshire County Council, Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service offer advice and answer any questions the public had on community safety issues. Local residents also received information on anti-social behaviour issues like litter dropping, graffiti, vandalism, noisy neighbours and criminal damage.

The events were well received in both areas and provided the opportunity to sign up to a free fire safety check for your home, and to gather information from various services. Services included Wiltshire County Council’s Youth Development service, who gave information on what is available for young people in the area. The public also had the chance to speak to council representatives and uniformed officers from the Police service about any local issues or concerns and receive information from the Wiltshire Police Crime Prevention Officers.

Proposals for similar events in the future have been welcomed. The organisations involved agree that it is important to promote positive partnerships working in south Wiltshire, which will continue to raise awareness and highlight the fact that Wiltshire remains one of the safest counties in England.
