Taxi and private hire licences
About this service
Salisbury District Council has a statutory responsibility to licence the Taxi (Hackney Carriage) and Private Hire trade.
Public safety is the main reason why the licensing of taxi and private hire vehicles, drivers and operators is regulated. The council is required to ensure that all licence holders are 'Fit and Proper' persons to be licensed and that vehicles are accessible and safe.

Payment
The cost depends on the type of licence issued, as follows:
- Driver licence initial application - £76 (includes £36 CRB Enhanced Disclosure fee)
- Driver licence fee - £60 single / £95 joint plus £3 for driver ID badge
- Hackney Carriage vehicle licence - £140 per year
- Private Hire vehicle licence - £105 per year
- Private Hire operators' licence - £140 per year
