Pet shops and any other business offering pets for gain must have a valid licence. The licence may stipulate a number of conditions to secure the well-being of the animals.
The council will arrange for the premises to be inspected by a veterinary surgeon to ensure accommodation is suitable for the welfare of animals. The licence will be issued subject to compliance with licence conditions and payment of the licence fee.
Licences are renewable annually, and are issued under the Pet Animals Act 1951.
Completed application form. Copy of current liability insurance certificate.
Cost of veterinary inspector's visit and administration fee. An invoice will be sent to you following the veterinary officer's inspection.
