An animal boarding establishment is 'the carrying on of a business of providing accommodation for other people's animals'. This includes private dwellings.
All premises must satisfy basic standards for the health, welfare and safety of the animals boarded.
Licences to board cats and dogs are issued under the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963 and are renewable annually.
The council will arrange a veterinary surgeon's inspection to ensure accommodation is suitable. The licence will be issued subject to compliance with licence conditions and payment of the licence fee.

Cost of veterinary inspector's visit (this cost varies according to type and size of establishment) + £36.50 administration fee plus VAT. An invoice will be sent to you following the veterinary officer's inspection.
